First night of the Holidays

The holidays started with a phone call at half one on the Friday from the school asking me if Cody could bring home the class budgies!!! I was not about to wake Cai up to make a special trip down to get them and couldn't see them coming home on the bus too pleasantly!! So told them I'd make a couple of calls myself and thankfully my wonderful neighbour was at the school so she brought them home for Cody. So we have Snowy and Bluebell for two weeks..... they make a hua of a mess but Cai is loving them

When the kids did get home and had had their full of food, we got out in the sun again. Moved our few muttons ( the sheep we plan on eating) and took Cheyenne out for a horse ride and then ran down the beach for a play in the evening sun.

Its always good exercise getting back up the hill from the beach, especially when I have Cai on my back and 9 rocks (decent size rocks!!) in the bottom of the back pack to get home. The plan for them, I have Cheyenne's friend for the day on Monday, they will be painting them.

I love taking photos in the evening sun and when the weather is like this, I really like to make the most of it, no sitting inside with movies or the TV going. My kids might groan at me (sometimes they do) but when they are inside a classroom most days, I kick their butts out the door when they get home. They will tahnk me for it one day :)

winters arrival

You can see it coming, Gordy has himself backed up as close to shelter as he can, he can feel it coming! Its the last week of school before the end of term holidays, a Tuesday, the night Cheyenne goes to Girl Guides. The boys and I usually go for a bike ride round the bush track while shes there. Looking at this weather on the way it won't be happening tonight. by the time I went down to school to collect the kids there was a couple of inches on the roads, the buses had run at half 11 and shut the schools down. Our kids stayed til the end of the day though. While Cheyenne was a Guides, the boys and I went for a drive and took photos but I won't bore you with all of them

The sun came out

The sun came out today so we made the most of it and went for a little walk to look over the edge of our property, now we can't go outside with out stopping to say gidday to 'neigh' so of course we did that on our wander.

There are days that this south coast is just incrediable and you can't beat it. Days you can just sit and be amazed at the ruggedness, the beauty, the vastness and creation in general. There were plenty of birds out there today, Cai loves watching the birds, Gypsy just loved being away from the house. We have this property on the market and if it sells I will miss this view and the openess.

Then on our return we had to stop to give 'neigh' a little treat, the house paddock is getting a bit bare and he is having to share it with a few muttons we are trying to fatten for the freezer, not that anything will be getting very fat on it at the moment!

'bye bye neigh'

reunited

Well I thought last week was cold......
but this week its in the minus's!!!!
Cai and Gypsy have barely ventured out, well Gypsy does every night to go to her bed, she is still a dog after all. But I have a few pic's to post of them just hanging out on the Gypsy's couch in front of the fire. I intended to post these after returning sth again last Tuesday but the week finished before I knew it and we have just had the most full on weekend. Today the thingy ma jig fell out of the top of the fire so I had to let the fire die out before I could get it out to cool down enough to fix the dang thing up again. Instead of sitting in a cooling down house we took off for the day. I really was too tired to and so was Cai but it was better then being cold in your own home! Before we left though I had a hua of a mess to clean up!!

The story goes, there was a whole ton of giggling coming from the lounge, thinking I'd sneak in and video Cai obviously having fun with Gypsy, well I snuck in to find the biggest mess. He had attacked the packet of fire starters, had them in a gazillion pieces throwing it at the dog, she was trying to catch them, he was giddy with delight!! I hate to think how many pieces she had already caught and hoped like crazy she hadn't swallowed any. Needless to say I had to abort their fun. A boys life!!

Gnome on the roam

Well not much exciting has happened since my last post and since we are in June now, the weather has really put on its full southland charm. It has not been pleasant at all most days. It has snowed around us but so far not here but we have the wet and the cold that comes with snow landing on the mountains. We did sit on Tuesday and watch the snow fall out our window but too wet here to lay.
Anyway we watched the sun peak through dark clouds as it rose this morning, I did venture out for a quick few photos of the sunrise but just quickly came back to the fire. I sound weak I know, but I have never been one for cold. Not sure that I will ever climatise to the cold down here either.

Come on Gypsy, lets go

feeding the fish a winter treat

Back to the sun though, by 10am its was shinning brightly and I gave in once again to letting Cai out for a roam in the fresh air. We fed the fish and visited the horse (the neigh), the sheep (the baa's) and the tractor in the shed ;). We climbed over the rocks in the garden, squashed a few more of my plants, jumped on the tramp, rode the trike and when fingers were too cold to smile about it anymore we came back inside to thaw out. I think our timing was perfect as it has turned again now and raining heavy.

Good morning Gordy

Right lets go see the Baa's now Gypsy, poor Gypsy even looks like she's not enjoying a chilly bum

Well we are now packing for a very quick trip to the Nth island for the weekend, won't be long enough thats for sure but very excited about our little adventure to see loved ones.

A cold day

The weather has really changed this last week, just quietly I am pleased I am not moving the neighbours sheep now. It is cold, very cold, snowy, miserable weather to be in. Cai stands at the door, asking "out, out, out" repeatively. So this day I layered him up and let him go. I was not brave enough to go keep an eye on him but knew him and Gypsy wouldn't be far apart. A few minutes later I went to check on him, I could hear a whole heap of giggles.... This is how I found them, running around and round on the trampoline together. Good old Gypsy, the best playmate :)

Oyster Festival 2012

We have never been to the Bluff Oyster Festival before so thought this year we would give it a go. Like I have mentioned before all of us love our seafood (except....horror horror.....I don't like Oysters, all the more for Shane though). It is reasonably priced and there was certainly plenty of delicious dishes of seafood to try. There were Kina shots & Oyster shots, the Oyster shots the boys tried. Cai stuck to basic fish that day, Cheyenne gutt's herself on the garlic muscles, Cody ate everything he could. My fav the scallops of course. The entertainment was good but I wouldn't take the kids again, it was fairly crowded and difficult with a pram. The sort of thing you go to with mates and get a table and sit and enjoy the day, eating as much as you want, without having to feed the kids!!!
